Welcome to Lesson 7 on the topic of Planned Material Quantities. In the previous lessons we covered the basics of Kanban, and in Lesson 6 we reviewed additional signaling methods available to you. In this lesson we will focus on how to establish the correct material quantities for a given item, and how to calculate the target number of containers that will be needed to support the anticipated usage. The determining of containers types will be covered in a future lesson.
In this lesson we will cover the Kanban formula, to determine the desired quantities for an item, at various storage locations. The use of Workstation Factors will be discussed, for cases where the same item is consumed at more than one workstation.
We will review the formula for material quantities at each location, including the use of a Safety Factor.
